KAMA Perfumes & Gifts  – The Original Indian Love Oil

Welcome to the wonderful scent that is KAMA perfume.

I am very proud to be the Australian distributor of KAMA products, having sold the range in my retail business Magicality for over 16 years.

KAMA perfume, as we know it today, began back in the 1970’s as Kama Sacred Love Oil. The name then changed to The Original Indian Love Oil.

The perfume is now simply KAMA.

As it has been manufactured in New Zealand for more than 48 years, it is a well known scent and brings back memories for many people. We often hear comments such as “I have worn this for years and love it!” or “my sister always wore it when we were growing up”. The best comment ever is “Oh you have KAMA perfume! – I love that so much”

The Scent:

The main ingredient of KAMA is Bergamot which is a citrus fruit mainly found in the Mediterranean and the essential oil it releases is both spicy and sweet. It is highly prized in perfumery for its ability to blend well with other aromas to produce complex scents. It is used in the pure essential oil form for calming the energy.

Although the combination of products that make up the unique scent that is KAMA, is closely guarded by the manufacturers, the blend includes cinnamon and cloves together with the rich floral notes of rose, geranium & tuberose.

The base note is woody, balsamic, & leathery which comes from blending patchouli, vetiver & oakmoss in just the right amounts.

Vetiver is now known to be more calming than Lavender and brings that to the KAMA perfume blend. It can sometimes be very earthy, and like Patchouli is in hundreds of men’s scents as a part of the mix of notes. This is probably why the KAMA scent appeals to women and men who like earthy scents as opposed to floral scents. Patchouli is also known for its calming and grounding effect on the body. Oakmoss is a type of light green to green-black fungal lichen that grows primarily on the trunk and branches of oak trees, hence its name. It carries scents of the forest – again earthy and fulsome. It is also used in many perfumes to hold the notes of the other mixes.

The Presentation:

The packaging and presentation of the range of KAMA perfume products is very elegant and true to its beginnings.  Back in 1971, the presentation was a 30cc glass bottle of Kama Sacred Indian Love Oil encapsulated in a two component wooden mahogany cylinder. A black and gold embossed label complemented the wooden outer. A swing tag containing a descriptive message completed the packaging.  During the years this has changed with the oil bottle changing to clear and the lotion as well as the wash being sold in a clear good quality plastic pump pack with the black and gold labeling. As the New Zealand website for Kama says: “The packaging may have changed over the years but the original ingredients have never been substituted nor formulations altered.”

The focus in 2019 for this product is back to black with gold embossing in all the packaging. Both the 30ml and 5ml perfume oil bottles, the reed diffuser, candle and the deodorant are all in black glass. The wash, lotion, spray oil, shower gel and massage oil are all in quality black containers with the gold embossing printed on them. The Buddha Sticks {Incense Sticks} are beautifully packaged in a striking black box with the image of Buddha on it with the gold embossing. The KAMA soap is sealed for protection but encased in a strong black box with the gold embossing on it. This full range now of 13 products is still exceptional quality and make stunning gifts for those who adore the scent. 

Released in Sydney Australia in December 1971, KAMA was an instant success. The time is now for KAMA to launch back into the market and be available around Australia.
